The next speaker is a lady
Description
The pioneers of the German Bundestag
As on the 7th In September 1949, the 410 newly elected members of the first German Bundestag met, including 28 women. During the legislative period, their number grew to 38, but they had a hard time appearing politically. Nevertheless, they asserted themselves in their political groups and in the committees. The center member Helene Wessel was elected as the first female party and faction leader, the SPD member Jeanette Wolff met with a lot of incomprehension as a self-confessed Jew and Holocaust survivor with her demands for compensation for the Jewish victims in parliament. And the theologian and CDU member Anne Marie Heiler was a typical backbencher and stopped on the 12th. May 1950 her first speech. "The next speaker is a lady," announced Bundestag President Erich Köhler.
With a foreword by Bundestag President Bärbel Bas, 38 short portraits and texts by Helene Bukowski, Julia Franck, Shelly Kupferberg, Terézia Mora and Juli Zeh
